Humble beginnings… Many of us grew up in homes without central heat or air conditioning.  Imagine life today without such basic comforts!  At the onset of the baby boom, however, such conveniences were only beginning to become a common part of the American home.  To meet the demand in this evolving industry, Peninsula Heating & Air (PHA) was established in 1955 in Newport News, Virginia.  Privately owned and operated, PHA quickly became known as our area’s leader in home comfort solutions. Building blocks to engine blocks… Stephen B. Smith is owner and President of PHA, Inc.  A baby boomer himself, Steve’s mechanical inclinations were evident at an early age.  Dismantling everything from clocks, radios, boats and cars, his desire to understand how mechanical things work could not be restrained. After graduating from college with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and enjoying a 12-year tenure at the Amoco Oil Refinery in Yorktown, Virginia, Steve dared to fulfill a dream. Combining mechanical talents and the desire to own his own business, he purchased Peninsula Heating & Air in 1992. A passion to be the best… Since 1992, the growth and success of Peninsula Heating & Air is attributed to one thing, understanding our customers’ needs and exceeding their expectations.  We accomplish this by offering quality products and services, and by hiring nice people who are willing to continuously learn and improve their skills.  PHA is a workplace that thrives on professionalism, teamwork and education.
